Alan studied piano at the Birmingham Conservatoire and later at the University of Surrey.

In February 2011 Alan was the Associate Musical Supervisor for the Avenue Q UK Tour.

As musical director: Avenue Q (Wyndhams & Gielgud), Little Shop of Horrors (Menier Chocolate Factory, Duke of York's & New Ambassadors), Rent (Garrick- Charity Concert).

Assistant musical director credits include: Shrek (Theatre Royal, Drury Lane); Matilda, A Musical (Courtyard Theatre, RSC); Hairspray (Shaftesbury Theatre); Spamalot (Palace Theatre); Kiss Me, Kate (UK tour), Aladdin (Old Vic), Imagine This (Workshop), The Light Princess (Workshop) & Bridget Jones (Workshop).

Alan has played keyboards on many shows including Cats, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Far Pavilions, The King and I, My Fair Lady, Jerry Springer – The Opera & Edward Scissorhands.

On the concert platform, Alan has performed with the Hallé, Orchestra of Scottish Opera and the BBC Concert Orchestra.

Television/Radio includes: 4 Poofs & a Piano (Jonathan Ross); Friday Night is Music Night (BBC Radio 2) and The Alan Titchmarsh Show (ITV1).
